The Ultimate 2022 Goals Experiment

It’s February - my favorite month of the year!

I can't help but reflect on February 2020. I headed off to visit my good high-school friend Tasila (pictured with me above) in Zambia, Africa. Five years earlier, in 2015, Tasila called me to deliver news that little did we know would change her life forever. She was leaving Philadelphia to return to her native hometown to reconnect with family and explore opportunities in public service.

Tasila will be the FIRST to tell you her journey has not been perfect, linear, nor without disappointments or tears. But, I've always admired her hopeful mindset and reliance on community support which enabled her to move forward. Fast-forward to 2018, Tasila was elected as her community's councilwoman. In 2020, this was a picture of us on the soccer-size stadium she had built near her childhood home. Little did I know by the end of that same year, I would be pitching Hey Auntie! at the #WellCityChallenge. But that's the beauty of being in communities where you are encouraged to hope, be courageous, and open to growth even in seasons of uncertainty -- it's contagious!

Many of you have shared a desire to grow in healthier mindsets. One mindset I've been really enjoying and trying to employ more in my own life is experimenting, especially related to my yearly goals.

Like many of us, I'm always excited about opportunities to learn and evolve into the best and healthiest version of myself. But sometimes, the New Year's resolution pressure can be tew, yes tew, much!

That's why I love experiments. Experiments' purpose isn't to be perfect. Thank goodness. You don't even have to obsess over the desired outcome. What a relief!

Experiments' purpose is to try new things. You gain valuable insights from what works and equally valuable insights from what does not. Then you apply all those insights to the "next try," moving you closer to the actual end goal.

And honestly, sis, when do we, as women, especially Black women, get the freedom and grace to enjoy the journey and experiment with our goals?

Well, here at Hey Auntie! you do, and we are!

Starting on February 1, 2022, we're launching the Hey Auntie! '22 Goals Experiment! and I invite you to join me!

The experiment has three simple steps. We're asking you to identify (1) goal, (1) barrier to that goal and (1) solution to that barrier you will experiment with for the next 28 days.

Plus, for the extra accountability and community, we're holding a '22 Goals Experiment 30-Min Virtual Check-Ins every Thursday during the month of February ( February 3, February 10, February 17, and February 24) at 8:00 p.m. EST.

These check-ins are super informal. They are opportunities for us to share our experiments, exchange stories – whether successes or struggles – with our experiments, and encourage each other to keep moving forward. We'll also discuss what our sustainability plan can look like for us after February is over and for the rest of the year. No perfection required!

Plus, as an extra incentive, everyone who participates in the experiment will be randomly entered to win a $25.00 gift card to the luxury beauty store Marsh and Mane. On February 28th, we will announce the winner.

Click the sign me up button below, and we will send you a Zoom link for our first virtual check-in on Thursday, February 3, 2022.

We're in this together!
