[Re]Building Our Financial Foundation with Joy & Possibility
I know we're excited to talk about investing, homeownership, and wealth, and we will! But first, we need a strong foundation. As my aunties say, “Before you build, check the ground.” So that's why our theme this month is – [Re]Building Our Financial Foundation with Possibility and Joy:
Are we managing our debt instead of letting it manage us? (Keeping high-interest debt low and tackling balances strategically.)
Do we have a cushion so we're not forced to dip into investments? (An emergency fund of at least 3-6 months of essential expenses.)
Are we maximizing our tax benefits so we keep more of what we earn and own? (Taking advantage of deductions, credits, and tax-advantaged accounts.)
No shame. No regret. No looking back. We're moving forward from here, with joy and possibility leading the way.
My One Thing: Staying Under My Grocery Budget
This is why this month we are launching our One Thing Challenge—because financial freedom happens step by step. My one thing: staying under my $200 grocery budget.
I've budgeted before, but this time I made it simpler. Deciding what to eat was stressing both my wallet and my mind ! So, I meal-prepped four large meals to rotate. The results?
I am staying under budget.
I am making fewer decisions about food (which is saving me so much mental energy).
I freeing up space in my mind and heart for bigger possibilities.
I'm not just saving money—I'm making my life easier. And isn't that what we're really after? Ease. Rest. Joy.
Black History is Financial Freedom
Our ancestors built wealth against all odds. This Black History Month, we recommit to continuing and honoring their legacy—our way, with intention, community, and JOY.
No matter what has happened before today, you are not behind. You are not too late. You are right on time for the future you are building. And we are doing it together—with joy, with possibility, and without apology.
